What is a solar powered submersible pump and how is it different from a regular submersible pump?

  A solar powered submersible pump operates on AC electricity generated by solar panels via a VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) controller, rather  than drawing from the grid. The pump itself — motor, impeller, and housing — is identical in construction to a standard submersible. The  difference is in the power source: solar energy replaces grid or diesel power, reducing running costs to near zero during daylight hours. OMI’s  solar submersible pump is designed to start and run under minimum light conditions, making it practical for early morning and late afternoon  irrigation cycles.

For small farms (under 2 acres) with a head of up to 30 metres, a 3 HP to 5 HP unit is typically sufficient. Medium farms (2–5 acres) with longer delivery pipelines generally require 7.5 HP to 10 HP. Large farms or those with heads above 100 metres should consider the 15–20 HP range.   This solar submersible pump supports a maximum head of 500 metres and a peak discharge of 1,600 litres per minute (96,000 LPH). It is available from 0.5 HP to 30 HP and can be configured with up to 60 stages for high-depth applications. For most agricultural borewells in India (50–150 metre depth), a 3 HP to 7.5 HP configuration is sufficient. Deeper industrial borewells in the 200–400 metre range typically require 10 HP and above.
